Our Dynojet model 248 dynamometer was purchased about 10 years ago and started out as an above ground unit where the car was put first on a 4 post lift then backed onto the dyno. 4 years ago we put the unit in the ground which made dynoing a vehicle much easier and less time consuming. A typical 3 run baseline pull can be done in about a half hour including time to strap/unstrap the vehicle.
For a performance enthusiast using a dyno can be amazing. Many people have tried after market parts after their baseline runs and found encouraging gains and at times disappointing losses of horsepower.
The most critical measurement while using the dyno is testing the air/fuel ratio. Too rich is a waste of fuel, horsepower and efficiency while too lean can cause internal engine damage. With our real time graphing of the wideband we can tell exactly where in the RPM band fuel adjustments need to be made. You can be lean and mean while being green. If you have your own tuner and need to do extensive testing the dyno can be rented by the hour or discounted deals can be made for up to a full 8 hour day.
